The North Texas Area

The North Texas Area is part of the Southwest Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), which has as its vision "to be a faithful, growing church that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice" (Micah 6:8). The North Texas Area exists to serve the Disciples of Christ congregations in the Texas counties of Collin, Cooke, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, and Rockwall, and one church in Paris, Tx. Click here for more information. 2016-17 Commissioned Minister Training and Continuing Education for Clergy

Thus year's training program will cover Stewardship, Theology, Disciples Heritage and Worship, with four outstanding teachers! Here's a brief overview, with dates. The brochure is posted here. The fee for all commissioned ministers is $110. Clergy and others taking these classes for continuing education can attend for $25 per session.

On Sept. 17 in Tyler (First Christian Church) and Sept. 24 in Irving (First Christian Church), Dr. Newell Williams of Brite Divinity School will teach on 'Understanding Disciples' Heritage'.

On Nov. 5, East Dallas Christian Church will host Bruce Barkhauer of The Center for Faith and Giving for instruction on 'Stewardship'.

On January 28, Creekwood Christian Church in Flower Mound will host the Area Leader and Learner Event and keynoter Dr. Marcia McFee of the Worship Design Studio, who will also present three workshops on 'Worship'.

On April 1 in Irving (First Christian Church) and again on April 8 in Tyler (First Christian Church), Dr. Carlos Cordoba-Orlandi will teach on 'Disciples Theology'.

Tornado Recovery Work underway in North Texas

FCC Rowlett continues to serve as as a major ministry center for relief efforts, in partnership with the North Texas Area, Week of Compassion and Disciples Volunteering. Major reconstruction efforts and volunteer opportunities await the involvement of multiple community agencies and federal programs.In the meantime, we do what we can.

The North Texas Area has disbursed more than $16,000 to affected individuals and a gift of $20,000 to install showers for FCC Rowlett to operate as a Mission Station sometime in the future. Please be patient, prayerful and generous! Gifts can be given to FCC Rowlett, the North Texas Area Relief Fund, and Week of Compassion designated for North Texas Tornado Relief.With more than 1,000 structures destroyed or damaged in Garland and Rowlett alone, the recovery effort will take years!

NTA Churchmen's Breakfast August 6 at First Christian Church of Denison

The next quarterly NTA Men's Breakfast is at 8:30 am at the newly renovated First Christian Church of Denison on August 6. Nathan Higginbotham, head of Men's Ministries for the Region of the Christian Church in the Southwest, will be the speaker. At the last breakfast, in May, Mike Spitters, minister of the radically renovated EXPEDITION CHURCH of Frisco spoke on new approaches to evangelism.The Nov. 5 breakfast will be at First Christian Church of Garland and will be the kickoff for Mike's Kids!

Camping Registration Information for 2016

The Tri-Area Camping registration process now centralizes all registrations with fees being handled by the Disciples Crossing camp. The 2016 Camp Season schedule can be found at www.disciplescrossing.org.

The Engaging Church Seminar
Is On-Line at the NTA Website!

engaging_church_250w.jpgThe North Texas Area of the Christian Church in the Southwest has launched an on-line video seminar for churches in the NTA. The NTA has licensed the "Engaging Church" seminar produced by Church Growth, Inc. The arrangement allows the NTA to present the complete video seminar in its secure Member Portal for the clergy and laity of the North Texas Area.

The seminar discusses how to attract outsiders, connect visitors and integrate new members. The seminar is presented in high-quality Flash video in six sessions. In addition to all six full-length videos, the seminar workbook is provided, session summaries and an area-wide on-line discussion forum for talking about each session of the seminar. Also, Larry Ross, Area Minister and President of the North Texas Area is available to visit NTA churches in a follow-up capacity to help interpret and apply the principles of this seminar in a holistic way
