The North Texas Area

The North Texas Area is part of the Southwest Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), which has as its vision "to be a faithful, growing church that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice" (Micah 6:8). The North Texas Area exists to serve the Disciples of Christ congregations in the Texas counties of Collin, Cooke, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, and Rockwall, and one church in Paris, Tx.  Click here for more information.

North Texas Area group ministers at West 

                                              Last Saturday, May 4, a group of intrepid missionaries from North Texas Area churches travelled to explosion ravaged West, Tx., to be the hands of Jesus to our neighbors there. Nearly 40 volunteers from ten NTA churches shared in the preparation of food and the feeding of hundreds of West residents and volunteers from across the state. Some 400 pounds of BBQ went quickly as the VFW Hall in West became one of two primary feeding sites for the day. NTA churches participating included: FCC Rockwall, FCC Denton, FCC Irving, FCC Lewisville, FCC Rowlett, Casa View, Firewheel, Monica Park, Community and Disciples Christian Churches. Other churches and individuals gave money in support of the effort.

Tri-Area Men's Retreat May 17-19 at Disciples Crossing

Rev. Ron Byrd, Minister of University Christian Church in Tyler, and Dr. Don Lyn, Minister of First Christian Church of Temple, will be the keynote speakers for the 2013 Tri-Area Men's Retreat at Disciples Crossing. "COMMANDMENT Or COMMISSION" will be the theme. First timers can attend the entire event for a mere $60, and the cost for grizzled veterans of the retreat will be $85. There is a $10 late fee after April 30, so register now! There is also a golf tournament starting at 11:30 am at Twin Lakes Golf Club near Athens. All the details are on the registration form below. It is at this event that the championships for Tri-Area Chickenfoot and Horseshoes events are determined, as well as bragging rights for fishing.

Grace Christian Church in Prosper Continues to Grow

Grace Christian Church of Prosper worships every Sunday at the Baker Elementary School in McKinney, just at the edge of Prosper.  They are doing several Outreach efforts in the Prosper area, including some Sundays where they are a 'church without walls' spending Sunday morning doing hands-on ministry.

Firewheel Christian Church in North Garland begins worship every Sunday!

Firewheel Christian Church has begun worship at the Holiday Inn Express near in the Firewheel Shopping Center in north Garland, just off the Bush Tollway. Meeting every Sunday, the church is pastored by Rhonda Tracy. A unique feature of the worship service is the inclusion of saxophone accompaniment, along with other excellent musicians. Please keep this newly birthing church in your prayers.

Two new church leader training videos have been added to our training library. This brings to a total of ten episodes available online with over twelve hours of multimedia training available to you.

The two new videos were recorded at the September 2011 Licensed Ministers Training session.

The Engaging Church Seminar
Is On-Line at the NTA Website!

The North Texas Area of the Christian Church in the Southwest has launched an on-line video seminar for churches in the NTA. The NTA has licensed the "Engaging Church" seminar produced by Church Growth, Inc. The arrangement allows the NTA to present the complete video seminar in its secure Member Portal for the clergy and laity of the North Texas Area.

The seminar discusses how to attract outsiders, connect visitors and integrate new members. The seminar is presented in high-quality Flash video in six sessions. In addition to all six full-length videos, the seminar workbook is provided, session summaries and an area-wide on-line discussion forum for talking about each session of the seminar. Also, Larry Ross, Area Minister and President of the North Texas Area is available to visit NTA churches in a follow-up capacity to help interpret and apply the principles of this seminar in a holistic way
