Hurricane Harvey Response

Reports continue to come in from the Coastal Plains and Bluebonnet Areas of the Christian Church in the Southwest regarding flood and storm damage to churches and families affected by Hurricane Harvey. First Christian Church of Rowlett and Central Christian Church of Dallas are already stepping up to help coordinate donations of cleanup and hygiene kits.
All the disaster response experts seem to agree that the most important thing to do right now is donate money…consider Week of Compassion (, which is already preparing solidarity grants to affected Disciples churches and families.
Clean Up – The mind spins at any attempt to consider the scope and scale of cleanup that will be needed. Both First Christian Church of Rowlett and Central Christian Church of Dallas will be collecting Hygiene Kits and Cleanup Buckets and their component ingredients for assembly. You can learn more about them below.  Thousands of thousands of homes are affected in the greater Houston area and along the coast.
Also, be aware that the City of Dallas is receiving thousands of evacuees, at Recreation Centers and the Dallas Convention Center. Here is news about the needs of these folk: The Dallas Convention Center will be welcoming 5,000 Gulf Coast residents this Tuesday, August 29, and are in need of emergency supplies. If you are in the DFW area and would like to donate supplies, the Dallas County VOAD member, Trusted World, will be accepting new underwear, new socks, new warmups for men, women, children and infants, toiletries/hygiene products, baby formula and baby wipes, bottles, diapers and the Graco Pac n’ Plays for babies to sleep in. Drop off is at 15660 N. Dallas Parkway, just north of Arapaho on the north side of the Parkway. Follow the signs to drop off donations. The donations center will open daily from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Southwest Region issues Statement on Restructure

God is at work in the Southwest Region! Over the years, there have been several efforts to reorganize the Region to increase the entire Region’s effectiveness and viability, but nothing has moved to or past the Regional Council in recent years until now. May 5-6, the Regional Council met, discussed, and approved the conceptual framework that was brought forth by the Regional Restructure Dialogue Group.

That framework places all administrative and staffing responsibilities in the Regional level, with Regional staffing consisting of a Regional Minister, Regional Executive, and Community Regional Ministers and support staff located across the entire Region. Areas would continue to provide valuable volunteer-led ministry. Click below to read more about the background and process that led us to this point.

The Restructure Dialogue Group will meet again June 2-3 to start working on more details. The Dialogue Group wants to hear from Areas and congregations, so we invite your input. Please share your comments, concerns, affirmations, and ideas about opportunities and challenges by contacting your Area Moderator or by e-mailing .

The Engaging Church Seminar
Is On-Line at the NTA Website!

engaging_church_250w.jpgThe North Texas Area of the Christian Church in the Southwest has launched an on-line video seminar for churches in the NTA. The NTA has licensed the "Engaging Church" seminar produced by Church Growth, Inc. The arrangement allows the NTA to present the complete video seminar in its secure Member Portal for the clergy and laity of the North Texas Area.

The seminar discusses how to attract outsiders, connect visitors and integrate new members. The seminar is presented in high-quality Flash video in six sessions. In addition to all six full-length videos, the seminar workbook is provided, session summaries and an area-wide on-line discussion forum for talking about each session of the seminar. Also, Larry Ross, Area Minister and President of the North Texas Area is available to visit NTA churches in a follow-up capacity to help interpret and apply the principles of this seminar in a holistic way
